A winner of the USA and World champions in the hurdle event, Lolo Jones has reached her current position after many years of hard work and an enormous amount of perseverance. Jones was the only child of a large family with five children as well as grew up poor. She lived with her mother in the cellar of a church. Jones' nomadic lifestyle made her change schools every year until high school. In Theodore Roosevelt High School, Jones was separated from her mother to pursue her interest in running events. Her family was split up in high school so she could be able to concentrate on her studies. Jones is a cellist of the school's orchestra as well as winner of the Gatorade Iowa track and field athlete of the year award won her the Gatorade Iowa Athlete Award at the time of her graduation from the high school year.
